Art Students League of Salt Lake
Welcome to the Art Students  League of Salt Lake!

This site is dedicated to advancing and enhancing art in and around Salt Lake City, as well as every other city and town in Utah.

Utah is not generally recognized as one of the nations premiere art centers, yet hundreds of incredible artists live and work in this beautiful state. However, many of these wonderful artists must sell their works through galleries outside of Utah.

Our goal is to change the current perception of art in Utah, and make the world aware of the incredible natural resources of talent, raw and refined, that exists among it's people.

By uniting together and networking with artists of like minds, we believe that Utah will soon become recognized as one of the GREAT ARTISTIC CAPITOLS of the world, as well as THE destination for artists and collectors alike.

  What's So Great About Art?

For centuries, art has been recognized as one of the most important pursuits of man to lift the spirit, and calm the troubled soul.

William Shakespeare saw art as a necessity, not  a luxury. Said he...

"The object of art is to give life a shape."

And it was George Bernard Shaw, noted playwright, Nobel Prize and Academy Award winner who said...

"Without art, the crudeness of reality would make the world unbearable."
He also wisely noted that...
"You use a glass mirror to see your face; you use works of art to see your soul."

And art has a very practical and educational side to it as well.

It has been noted by educators that students exposed to the arts,
(visual, dance, music and drama) achieve higher scores on standardized tests, and that "at-risk" students are more likely to stay in school when they participate in an arts program.

Principal Peter Dillon of New York City's Heritage School says... "The observational skills needed to draw a careful sketch of a leaf, are the same skills you need to figure out scientifically what's going on in a pond, which are the same skills you need to 'read' your classmates... I know there's a strong connection between the arts and learning; I see it every day"

Leo Tolstoy said... "All art has this characteristic - it unites people"

And art makes life fun!
Katharine Hepburn said...

"I think most of the people involved in any art always secretly wonder whether they are really there because the're good or there because they're lucky."

Get lucky... get involved in art!
"Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life."    Pablo Picasso
The true work of art is but a shadow of the divine perfection... Leonardo da Vinci
