Art Fundamentals
In this class, you will learn the most basic principles of art and how they interact to make art that is pleasing to yourself, and maybe significant to society. Items needed for this class include:
* Pencils
* Clipboard
* Drawing Pad
* Kneaded Eraser
Oil Painting
Each student will need the following items.
* Canvases
* A selection of oil painting brushes
* Oil paints and a brush cleaning jar
* Odorless turpentine or mineral spirits
* Charcoal pencil or vine charcoal
* Painting medium
* Paper towels
Beginning Sculpting
An assortment of tools will be needed, as well as clay. You will need to decide first if you want to use water based, or oil.
A sculpture stand will be provided. Each student will need to provide or build their own armature (if needed) to sculpt their model. The following tools will come in handy...
* An assortment of steel plaster tools
* Wooden modeling tools
* Single-end wire modeling tools
* Double-end wire modeling tools
* A delicate double-end modeling tool for fine detail.
* A plastic water bottle and towel if using water based clay.
* A house-painters bristle brush
Figure Drawing
The following items will be needed for drawing class.
* A clipboard
* A large drawing pad... or newsprint pad
* An assortment of pencils, including lead, charcoal, a mechanical pencil, vine charcoal or conte crayons.
* Kneaded Erasers
* Spray Fixative (workable)
Perspective Drawing
For this class you will need to purchase the book Perspective Made Easy, by Ernest R. Norling.
This book is easy to understand and concise in it's approach. It can be purchased on-line or at most major book stores.
Additional items to bring include...
* A 36 inch steel ruler
* A large plastic square
* A 24 inch "T" square
* Mechanical drafting pencil
Shapes, Objects and Values
This class will require pencil, paper and eraser. The class will probably be the most demanding class you'll take here, but will also be the most rewarding as you hone your skills as an artist.
